What can your mobile phone really do?

Most people buy a cell phone (also known as mobile phones) to make calls and send an sms or two. Right?

Well that’s what you hear people always say, but what if they really knew what capabilities their cell phone had? Would they then start using more of the features or still just make/receive calls, send an sms and take the odd photo?

However, most cell phones do much more than that. Chances are, if you paid over R 3500 for your cell phone or currently paying more than R100 per month on contract, then your cell phone can do some, if not all of the following: Continue reading

What exactly is a Laptop?

A Laptop (or Notebook) according to WikiPedia is referred to as “a personal computer designed for mobile use and small enough to sit on one’s lap while in use”

In contrast to the previous article, we will not specifically deal with exactly what a laptop is, as many people understand the concept of laptops compared to your normal desktop computer. In recent years we have seen a boom in the Laptop market as prices became much cheaper with entry level models sometimes even going for as low as R2 999. However, with the advent and sudden popularity of netbooks, laptops seem to have stabilised entry level models at R4 999 and up. One reason still stands out though; in the last few years laptops have become much more powerful, more streamlined and lightweight and of course you don’t need to fork out over R10 000 for one anymore. A fact on the other hand remains that even though the gap is narrowing, laptops will never be on par with the desktop computing power and pricing at any given time. Continue reading

MXit for Windows Mobile – (User Review)

For those of us who don’t know, MXit is a mobile chat application much like MSN messenger, Google talk, IRC, Mig33 and the like. It allows a user to send 1000 character messages for one ZAR cents, as well as various multimedia functions that can be carried out at a fraction of the price of using a service provider.

Most people are now probably aware of the fact that the well known South African chat application now comes in a Windows Mobile version. It has taken the team at MXit quite some time to ‘fully’ develop it, having launched their second version a few months ago, well before the latest Java version and exactly the same time as the I-phone and blackberry versions.

Windows Mobile Games

It is quite interesting to see the influx of Windows Mobile games suddenly out on the market. Traditional “gaming” companies like EA, Gameloft and Codemasters are all realising the potential mobile gaming market has to offer, especially that of Windows Mobile (specifically for the touch screen).

The current batch of games for this platform has left me impressed and craving to see more. Some of the games are in true 3D and give off the exact same graphics as PS1, such as Tomb Raider for example. Now this game is fully 3D (third person) and honestly makes u think you are playing the PS1 version on a small screen.
